The descendant is always the opposite sign of your ascendant. If your rising sign is Aries, your descendant is Libra. If your rising sign is Taurus, your descendant is Scorpio. The descendant is then simply the opposite point on the zodiac wheel — exactly 180 degrees from your ascendant.

Because the ascendant changes approximately every two hours, your descendant shifts at the same rate. This means that even a small error in your birth time can place your descendant in a different degree or even a different sign. For the most accurate calculation, you need your birth time to be precise to within a few minutes.

The calculation also takes into account your geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude), as the position of the horizon varies depending on where you were born on Earth. Two people born at the exact same moment but in different locations will likely have different descendants.
