The Midheaven, also known as the Medium Coeli (Latin for "middle of the sky"), is the highest point in your birth chart at the moment of your birth. It sits at the top of the chart, marking the cusp of the 10th house — the house of career, public reputation, and social status.

While your sun sign represents your core identity and inner self, your Midheaven reveals how you present yourself to the world in terms of achievement and ambition. It shows the legacy you are building, the recognition you seek, and the contributions you make to society. Think of it as your "public face" in the realm of career and social standing.

The Midheaven is always directly opposite the Imum Coeli (IC), which sits at the bottom of the chart and represents your roots, home, and private life. Together, these two points form a vertical axis that balances your public achievements with your private foundations.

Calculating your Midheaven requires your exact birth date, time, and location. The MC is determined by the position of the ecliptic (the Sun's apparent path) at the highest point above the horizon at your birth moment and place.

Because the Earth rotates continuously, the Midheaven changes approximately every 4 minutes. This means that even a small error in your birth time can shift your MC to a different degree or even a different sign. For the most accurate calculation, you need your birth time to be precise to within a few minutes.

The calculation also takes into account your geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude), as the position of the MC varies depending on where you were born on Earth. Two people born at the exact same moment but in different locations will have different Midheavens.
